Frequently Asked Questions
QUESTIONS BEFORE TAKEOFF?
Choose the FAQ built for you. Pilots can learn how the rental network is intended to work, while FBOs can review the operational and business questions that matter before joining.
What is Open Aircrafts?+
Open Aircrafts is building a standardized aircraft rental network connecting pilots, participating FBOs and aircraft operators, aircraft, and authorized flight instructors through one platform.
What does “Get Checked Out Once. Rent Anywhere.” mean?+
The goal is to reduce unnecessary repetition by creating a portable Pilot Passport and standardized qualification framework across participating Open Aircrafts locations. Aircraft-specific, operator, insurance, recency, regulatory, or local requirements may still apply.
What is the Pilot Passport?+
The Pilot Passport is designed to organize a pilot’s verified qualifications, documents, ratings, training, checkouts and relevant rental eligibility information so participating operators can evaluate a renter more efficiently.
Can I rent an aircraft from any FBO in the network?+
When the network launches, pilots will be able to discover participating aircraft and request or book rentals based on availability and eligibility. Final authorization depends on the requirements for that aircraft and operator.
Does Open Aircrafts replace FAA requirements or an FBO’s checkout rules?+
No. Open Aircrafts does not replace FAA regulations, insurance requirements, aircraft limitations or an operator’s authority. The platform is designed to standardize and streamline the process while preserving required safety and operational controls.
What happens if I am not checked out for the aircraft I want?+
The network is designed to help identify missing requirements and, when available, connect you with an authorized instructor so you can complete the appropriate training and checkout.
Can flight instructors join the network?+
Yes. Qualified instructors can join the waitlist to become part of the instructor network and potentially provide aircraft-specific training and checkout services for participating operators.
Who sets aircraft rental prices?+
Participating aircraft operators control their aircraft pricing, availability, rental policies and operational requirements. Open Aircrafts provides the marketplace and workflow connecting those aircraft with qualified renters.
Is the rental game on this page a real aircraft reservation?+
No. The interactive rental game is a preview of the intended Open Aircrafts experience. It uses sample information and does not create a real checkout, payment, dispatch authorization or aircraft reservation.
When does Open Aircrafts launch?+
The countdowns on this page show the current targets for full FBO onboarding and the Open Aircrafts beta. Join the waitlist for launch updates and early-access opportunities.
